BNY Mellon is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to decarbonize its road fleet in India, aligning with its steadfast commitment to global carbon neutrality. The inaugural phase of this visionary project involves the introduction of a fleet comprising 20 state-of-the-art BYD e6 electric vehicles within the premises of its Pune office on a pilot basis. This heralds the beginning of a strategic plan to gradually replace a substantial portion of the existing diesel-powered fleet across the entirety of India.

Spearheaded by Sudish Panicker, Managing Director and Head of BNY Mellon Operations in India, the project reflects the institution's recognition of the imminent impact of climate change. Panicker emphasizes the imperative for institutions to adopt long-term thinking and responsible growth, asserting that the efficacy of client solutions is intrinsically tied to the enterprise's actions and behavior. This eco-conscious initiative not only aligns with BNY Mellon's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts but also marks a significant stride towards advancing sustainable practices within the corporate landscape.

Nitin Chandel, Managing Director and Head of BNY Mellon Technology in India, underscores the institution's ongoing commitment to implementing sustainable solutions throughout its value chain. With a visionary goal to electrify its entire corporate fleet by the conclusion of 2025, Chandel elucidates that the launch of the electric vehicle (EV) facility for employees is a tangible manifestation of BNY Mellon's vision to transform 'Smart Pune' into 'Sustainable Pune.' The strategic deployment of EVs is poised to play a pivotal role in the city's battle against climate change and the reduction of pollution.

The BYD e6, chosen for its cutting-edge features, boasts an impressive combined WLTC claimed range of 415 km on a single charge. This environmentally conscious choice aligns seamlessly with BNY Mellon's commitment to sustainability. The fleet will primarily serve as an integral component of BNY Mellon's employee transportation program in Pune and Chennai.

Anticipated to complete an impressive 30,000 trips, this fleet of electric vehicles is projected to save over 99,000 kilograms of carbon emissions annually, making a tangible impact in the reduction of the institution's carbon footprint. Beyond the quantitative metrics, the project aims to instill a profound sense of responsibility among employees, encouraging them to actively contribute to building a sustainable future for generations to come. As BNY Mellon pioneers this transformative endeavor, it not only underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship but also sets a commendable standard for corporate sustainability initiatives.
